Rehabilitation Services
Rehabilitative Services works with people whose lives have
been disrupted by injury or disease. The focus of treatment
is based on restoring function and returning patients to their
prior level of functioning. We serve infants to geriatrics
and offer physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech
language pathology.
Physical
Therapy
Physical Therapy evaluates and develops a treatment plan to
address six main principles of treatment:
| |
1. |
Pain Reductions through thermal modalities: joint and tissue mobilization and exercise. |
|
2. |
Neurological Rehabilitation through neuromuscular education, tone reduction and exercise. |
|
3. |
Improved Range of Motion through manual therapeutic procedures and stretching techniques. |
|
4. |
Increased Musculature Strength through exercise, endurance training and electrical stimulation. |
|
5. |
Wound Management through the utilization of whirlpool,
debridement, and dressing techniques. |
|
6. |
Patient Education |
Physical Therapy is involved in the treatment of patients with such diagnoses as CVAs, amputations, burn and wound care, chronic/acute pain, arthritis, frozen shoulders, neurological and/or orthopedic dysfunction, lumbar/cervical strain, etc.
Occupational Therapy
Occupational Therapy evaluates and develops a treatment plan which addresses the following goals:
|
1. |
Reduction of Limitations |
|
|
Improved joint range, muscle strength and endurance; splinting and/or bracing to enhance functions; reduction of edema; desensitize painful areas that have resulted from scarring or nerve involvement and cognitive and visual perception training. |
|
2. |
Training of Self Care Skills |
|
|
Teach individuals adaptive methods, with or without equipment, to regain their independence; retrain hand dominance and cognitive compensation. |
|
3. |
Patient Education |
|
|
Teach proper body mechanics for home and work to prevent injuries; teach work simplification and energy conservation techniques, and provide home programs to maintain skills. |
Diagnoses typically seen by Occupational Therapy include:
orthopedic and/or nerve injury to the shoulder, elbow, wrist
or fingers, arthritis, carpel tunnel syndrome, edema, pain,
reflex sympathetic dystrophy, limited function, stroke, developmental
delayed, cognitive deficits, and Cerebral Palsy.
Speech
Pathology
Speech Pathology evaluates and treats areas of speech and
language disorders including: Aphasia, Dysarthria, Dyspraxia,
voice disorders (hoarseness, harshness, lack of volume), Laryngectomy,
traumatic brain injury, delayed language and articulation
disorders in children, foreign and regional accents, hearing
impairments and cognitive deficits. Speech Therapy also
addresses Dysphagia to provide appropriate treatment and diet
for swallowing disorders.
