Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation Center

In June of 2001 Central Mississippi Medical Center opened the doors of its CardioPulmonary Rehabilitation program. This program helps patients with heart and lung disease achieve their optimum level of health through outpatient exercise therapy. As you can see from the pictures below, our patients have a wide variety of exercise equipment available for their use. Staff members circulate during the exercise sessions, explaining proper exercise techniques and encouraging patients. The “Wall of Windows” gives our patients the opportunity to look outside at any time during the exercise session, a small benefit that they greatly enjoy. 

There are several type of patients that we serve with this program. In the Cardiac Rehabilitation Services performed we see patients who have the following diagnoses:

• Stable Angina
• Post MI
• Coronary Artery Bypass Graft

Our Pulmonary Patients have been diagnosed with these or similar conditions:

• Sarcoidosis
• Cystic fibrosis without meconium ileus
• CF with pulmonary manifestations
• Chronic bronchitis
• Emphysema
• Asthma
• Bronchiectasis
• COPD
• Pneumonoconiosis
• Asbestosis
• Pneumonopathy

In addition to the on-going exercise programs conducted in the Cardio Pulmonary Rehabilitation area, educational classes are offered on a regular basis. These classes focus on:

• How the Heart and Lungs function
• Explanation of Heart and Lung disease
• Methods of treating the disease process
• Risk Reduction

The Cardio-pulmonary Rehabilitation Center at Central Mississippi Medical Center is certified by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR). Part of the quality of this program is in the multidisciplinary staff. At this time, we are staffed with:

• (1)- Masters prepared Exercise Physiologist
• (2)- Registered Respiratory Therapists
• (1)- ACLS certified Registered Nurse
• (1)- Registered Dietitian

CMMC’s CardioPulmonary Rehabilitation hosts other services such as Health Trek. Health Trek is an adult fitness program targeting those patients that have completed their initial CardioPulmonary therapy as well as those members of the community who have been ordered by their physician to participate in a supervised exercise program.

The CardioPulmonary Rehabilitation facility also facilitates the exercise portion of the Comprehensive Medical Weight Management Program offered at CMMC.
